Empowering Advocates for Change: A Successful 2-Day Workshop by AMAAN AFRICA & LOYOC!
On June 9–10, 2025, AWEC participated in a two day workshop organized by AMAAN AFRICA, in partnership with LOYOC. The transformative 2-day workshop focused on Content Creation and Advocacy for Children in Conflict Zones.
Day 1 – Virtual Workshop on Zoom
**Theme:Creative Insight on Canva & Advocacy for Children in Conflict Zones
Mr. Thulani Moyo (Zimbabwe) opened the session by introducing the mission and vision of AMAAN AFRICA, and the impactful work of LOYOC. He emphasized the importance of advocacy, different types of advocacy, and how young people can become active voices in creating change.
Madam Ashu Maureen led an insightful session on Content Creation, encouraging participants to leverage Canva for impactful advocacy. Her session concluded with a hands-on exercise on Canva, giving participants a practical head start on visual storytelling.
Day 2 – In-Person Workshop at DAREM Office, Great Soppo – Buea
Theme: Empowering SDG16 Advocates with Canva Skills for Professional Advocacy
Presentation on SDG16 Delivered by Madam Ashu Maureen, who broke down Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. She highlighted the importance of promoting positive peace, child protection, and community involvement in safeguarding children in conflict zones.
Understanding Children’s Rights Miss Asana Maryam passionately explained the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), shedding light on children associated with armed forces and serious violations in conflict areas.
Forms of Abuse in Conflict Zones Miss Jemima Budi shared essential knowledge on different types of abuse children face and provided practical skills for SDG16 volunteers committed to protecting these vulnerable groups.
The session concluded with interactive group work led by Madam Maureen, followed by lively group photos to capture the energy and unity of this impactful event.
