16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence 2025

The Association of Women Empowerment Cameroon (AWEC) proudly took part in the official launch of the 2025 Edition of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, held in Buea and organized by MINPROFF, UNFPA, and partner Civil Society Organisations.

This year’s global theme, “ UNITE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls ,” speaks to a growing reality digital spaces are becoming new grounds where women and girls face harassment, cyberbullying, image based abuse, and other harmful online behaviors. The campaign calls on all communities to stand together and ensure that technology becomes a tool for empowerment, not intimidation.

The event began with a vibrant sports walk from OIC Market to Bongo Square, bringing together institutions, youth groups, community leaders, and human rights advocates. With placards, chants, and unified messages, participants raised awareness on the urgent need to protect women and girls both online and offline. The walk created strong visibility across the city of Buea and reaffirmed the collective commitment to end all forms of GBV.

AWEC’s presence at the launch reflects its long standing dedication to protecting women’s rights, promoting digital literacy, and fostering safer communities. Through its programs, AWEC continues to educate women and girls on safe online practices, support survivors through awareness and referrals, and work closely with partners to build inclusive, respectful digital and physical environments. We remain committed to strengthening community sensitisation and collaborating with institutions to prevent physical, psychological, economic, and digital violence.

As these 16 Days of Activism unfold, AWEC stands united with national and global partners to advocate for justice, equality, and a world where every woman and girl lives free from violence.

End GBV. End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls.
