Why is the ocean so crucial to our existence?
We literally breathe because of it! The ocean produces more than half of the oxygen in our atmosphere.
It keeps our planet livable! It helps regulate the climate, absorbing heat and CO2.
It feeds us! Billions of people depend on the ocean for food and income.
It’s bursting with life! An assortment of creatures call the ocean home, keeping our ecosystems healthy.
It’s a source of wonder and inspiration! From stunning coral reefs to majestic whales, the ocean fills us with awe.
This year’s theme, “Awaken New Depths,” is a powerful call to action! It reminds us to deepen our connection with the ocean, to learn more about its mysteries, and to recognize its critical importance. It’s about exploring new solutions, fostering innovation, and bringing everyone to the table to ensure the ocean thrives.
At AWEC, we recognize that women are often at the forefront of community efforts to protect natural resources, including our oceans. Empowering women empowers ocean conservation!
