Supporting female founders and cofounders in achieving their goals and getting their opinion heard in the discussion

Our Objectives

We want to connect, engage, and empower African women who are running enterprises in the Agri-food tech field so that we can continue to solve the world’s most critical problem: feeding 10 billion people sustainably by 2050.

This pan-African project will raise the voices of women, tell their stories, and encourage conversation about gender and financing equality in the Agri-food tech industry.

As we strive toward the SDG of gender equality, it is our aim that this project will shift the narrative of the current situation and provide hope to many young women founders working in the Agri-food tech field.

How Agritech and Digital Literacy Are Transforming Farming

Women in Agri-food tech face a number of challenges.

Challenge #1
Limited Access to Productive Resources

Women make about 43% of the agricultural workforce in developing countries. Agriculture is their primary source of income for 79% of them, although they have limited access to productive resources.
Challenge #2
Insufficient Capital Investment

The Agri-FoodTech industry is seeing an increase in venture capital investment, but it isn’t reaching one of the most important groups of entrepreneurs: female founders.
Challenge #3
The Agri-food Tech Market

Only 3% of capital dollars and 7% of acquisitions in the Agri-FoodTech market went to female-only formed firms in 2018, representing a 2 percent and 4% growth from 2013. (mwoma.org).
Challenge #4
Very Low Financial Investments

Only 3% of financial investments in Africa have been committed to female-led enterprises through 2020. (Briter Bridges). How about enhancing this to encourage more women to pursue careers in Agri-food tech?

What do we want to actually achieve?

“First, to analyze and assess the gender financing gaps in Africa’s Agri-food tech ecosystem, and second, to close the gaps that have been identified,” says the report.
